Introduction to the Decal Generator

The Decal generator wraps a material with a flat mesh onto a parent to create surface details such as knots, lumps, or cavities.

To create surface details with a material and a 3D mesh, see the Mesh detail generator. To create surface details procedurally, see the Knot generator.

Prerequisites

To use the Decal generator, you need a material with both an opacity map and a flat mesh assigned to it. The mesh must have multiple vertices and triangles.

Placement on the parent

The Decal generator conforms the mesh to the surface of the parent. For accurate placement, the mesh must contain enough vertices and triangles to be deformed.

If the placement looks off, add more vertices and triangles to the affected areas. If you can’t see the decal at all, add more geometry to the middle of the mesh.

Use the Tessellation property in the Cutout Editor to add geometry quickly.
